ON THE BACK BURNER

There have been house guest at the compound for the last 3 days, and, it hasn't rained in 3 days. The compound guests come from Colorado , where it hasn't rained enough to even record. This might be telling us something. In a convoluted way, this couple has had a long history with our family. Our daughter owned a cabin in the mountains. When she got married, she sold it to the guests who are here now. Our sons'  Colorado place is at the foot of what was his sisters property. Confusing, but the bottom line is that everyone is still close, even though our son is now in Washington. I wish that they weren't going home in the next few days. Not having rain has been really nice. I have gotten out to hack through some under brush and cut back on some invasive plants that threaten to scratch you every time you walk near them. Mistletoe. I thought that mistletoe was a bush. It grows into sturdy ,huge trees that can eat you and your small dog. Those leaves are wicked.  The leaves are pretty but full of sharp thorny protrusions. Poor Dixie has yelped more than once when she gets too close to some low branches. I have to wear strong gloves when I am cutting them back. The pricks hurt, even when they have been cut down. it's my mission to cut them down as close to the ground as I can . You really can't kill them, just keep them at bay until they grow again next year.
