ON THE BACK BURNER

The manure won. I moved three more wheel barrels of it and then called it quits. I decided that if I slipped in the manure and the local paper ran a story saying," son finds 87 year old mother, in pile of manure, etc", it wouldn't look so pretty. But the big news is that three cages around some of our fruit trees are gone. Just those few make such a difference. The kids moved some of the Adirondack furniture to a cleared spot, put the fire ring and a small round table there and made a nice place for wedding guest to warm themselves. I can see the pile to the dump getting bigger and bigger. I spent the last of the day comforting Dixie. I gave her some processed chicken pieces and her stomach was not happy. When I was going to have the melanoma removed from my leg, I wasn't sure how extensive the procedure would be, so I bought a few quick meals. This was about a year ago. The procedure was straight forward and I didn't have much of a recovery period. So the meal just sat in the freezer. I decided to cook it and give Dixie the chicken chunks. Now I know that I can't do this to her. Poor baby. She is feeling much better and I am feeling much guilt for serving her this.
