ON THE BACK BURNER

When I was walking Dixie today, two deer decided to walk along side of us. That made me a little nervous, but after about half a block, they stopped to eat and Dixie and I continued our walk. Dixie didn't even notice them. We came to the walking path  and turned into it . From where I was, I could see the end of the path. It's about half a city block. I could see a cat starting to walk on  the path. Dixie went crazy. Remember, she didn't see the deer right next to us. Now she could see the cat half a block away. Is this selective seeing. I know that she really has a problem seeing. Sometimes when I give her a treat from my hand, she can't find the treat right away and will miss it. Could she smell the cat? Why didn't she at least bark at the deer, like she does when she sees a dog. No wonder she is no good at keeping the deer away from our yard. But then, we don't  have any stray cats in our yard either.
