ON THE BACK BURNER

Many of you know that I had a terrible flight with Dixie when I came to Port  Townsend. Now I am preparing her for the return to Venice. I am doing everything that has been recommended. Her travel crate is out. I feed her in it. I say the word " crate" every rime that she goes in to eat. I throw treats in it for her and say " crate". So far, after two weeks, she has yet ro put her hind legs in the crate. So now, I am trying a Kong. Supposedly, a Kong is every dogs dream , go to toy.For those who do not have a dog, a Kong is a hard rubber thing, shaped like an upside down cone. It has an opening that you put small eatables in , freeze the Kong and the dog is supposed to spend time trying to get the treat out. It is sold in various sizes, from puppy to huge. It is said that the dog will spend hours working at getting the treats out. No one told Dixie. Even with raw meat, or cooked beef, or peanut butter in it, she is not interested. The Kong is supposed to save me from being thrown out of a moving plane. I think that there is definitely something wrong with Dixie. Dogs are supposed to love these things. Notice how often I say " supposedly". Maybe  I will try potato chips . I just thought of that . I'd do ice cream ,but that sounds messy. Maybe chicken liver cooked in schmaltz. I've got to get the rest of her body into the crate. That is her assignment for this week.
