ON THE BACK BURNER

One minute my pod was filled with people and the next thing that I knew, I was an empty nester again. Our numbers, temporarily, went from 8 to 4. I do have to say that the 4 still here, are the quieter ones. The ones who left town, with the exception of my Israeli daughter, will be back ,soon. They tried to coordinate their departures so that only one trip was made to the airport. It was inconvenient for my daughter, because her plane left 5 hours after everyone else, but it did save two round trips. Seattle is a 4 hour round trip, with fingers crossed that the Hood Canal doesn't have a closing .  the bridge can be closed because of an accident, a repair, it could be swung open  for military reasons, or closed to traffic if the wind was a certain velocity. I did check their web site first thing this morning for a planned closures or accidents. Every one gathered here to pick up my daughter,or to say goodbye. One grandson cleaned out his refrigerator and left me veggies, plus a large bag of apples from the trees in his yard. I'll make applesauce with them. After everyone left, there was such a void in the pod. My daughter was a good house guest, so there really wasn't a lot to do. I was scheduled to have my Covid booster today, so even though I had a late afternoon appointment at Saveway, I decided to go early and just see if anyone noticed. No one did, so I took care of that. Now I'll just sit in the dark and wait for almost everyone to come back. That's what a Jewish grandma does.
