ON THE BACK BURNER

What a filled day. We , being my DiL and Colorado daughter, packed a picnic lunch and caught the 11 o'clock ferry to Whidbey Island. There are usually 2 ferries running ,but help is so hard to come by ,that only one ferry is running. That's too bad because working on the ferry is a State job with great benefits and regular promotions. They just can't fill positions. We almost didn't get off of the ferry. We were so intent looking out of the large windows that we didn't hear the announcement to disembark. A guard found us and said that we had to get off. Since no one else was still on the ferry, we had no one to show us the way down to the floor level. We ended up with the motorcycles exiting the ferry. There is a protocol on ferries, First the walkers, then the bikes, then motorcycles, then cars.   Once on the Island, we hiked along the ridge to an old second world war bunker, where there are   canons, and mysterious small out buildings We saw a lot of activity down in a valley next to one of the bunkers. It was a kids halloween event. Costumes, scary sounds, screaming. The kids were loving it. Just what a safe halloween should be. At the opposite end of halloween, we saw a bridal party coming toward us with their photographer. Unless they edit it, we will be in it, hollering, clapping ,giving thumbs up. The groom was holding the brides flowers and she  had to be freezing in her wedding gown, as the cold wind was destroying her hair and veil. We explored areas of the park that I had never seen before. I think my daughter, toward the end, thought we were a little lost, but we found the coast line and walked the beach until we came to to the ferry slip  and came back to PT. I took a nap.
