The Wooden Boat Show held here every September ,is the high light of the season for Port Townsend. It's the World's Fair for wooden boats .These boats are master pieces of beautiful woods. Some are hand crafted. Many are
old enough to be antiques. Some are from exotic woods. Wooden boats sail in, and their fans come from around the country to see them, walk in them and talk wooden boats. Last year it was cancelled and it
was schedule for next week. A day ago, it was cancelled. What a bummer for the whole city. It leaves everyone feeling a little lost, like the city lost its spirit. It was a community effort, with volunteers, venues, entertainment, excitement. You could walk
onto the boats and talk to the owners, see how some lived aboard their boats, how much pride they had in them. I especially looked forward to the sail out. That happened on the last day of the show, when one by one, in some planned order, the hundreds of boats
sailed out of the harbor We went to one of the high points in town and got a spectacular view of the boats sailing out. . I got to see it once , several years ago, and I was so looking forward to seeing
it again. Maybe next year? Maybe.
