ON THE BACK BURNER

I used a high powered saw for the first time. My son demonstrated the saw and then left me on my own. I was super cautious. In fact, in the beginning , I was terrified. What if I slipped and cut my leg. Would I react and let go of the trigger  or freeze and do more damage to myself. My only thought, in the beginning, was that I wanted to take a picture of myself, wielding the saw, but no one was around to do it. Next time. I finally stopped with the saw when I realized that the work was unending and I was only randomly cutting , without much of a plan. I felt powerful. Like I could play with the big boys. Me and my saw. I decided to stop before this feeling of power made me cut something that was meant to be growing. They have this invasive holly that is every where. It is beautiful but  not what you want in your garden. And ivy. I like the ivy, but my kids consider it another invasive plant that smothers plants and other trees. I worked for a couple of hours , then raked and created more piles of leaves, pine cones, holly, ivy , rocks and tree limbs. Now my son and DiL and maybe a grandson or two will have to cart it away to the dump. Clearing is hard work and it is slow work. While I was doing this clean up, Dixie was in the wood shed, burrowing under lumber, junk, and old beat up stuff , that my son calls "inventory". When she comes out, her whole muzzle is full of dust and her coat is stiff with dirt. She loves it.  I can't get an appointment with the groomer, so I throw her in the shower. Turns out, she doesn't mind showering. I'm next in the shower.
