ON THE BACK BURNER

When I was very , very young,my Grandmother was a formable figure. She was a  notch above Orthodox. I may have mentioned, more than once, that she ran a Kosher boarding house for men. That was when men still came to N.O. as salesmen and as representatives of Jewish organizations, looking for contributions from Jews in the community. One day, when I must have been around 5, I was visiting and saw her wig hanging up on the close line. I have been scared for life with that vision. I still remember everything about the yard, the clothes line, the color of the wig. I also always said that I didn't want her wrinkles. She had a full Slovak face and many, many wrinkles.  Some where along the way, I inherited her wrinkles. This is the one time I would have liked to have inherited my Mother's complexion. Maybe if I hadn't run for 30 plus years in sun and wind, and used lotions and creams ,I would have had a better chance . I guess a girl can't have everything, so I'll take my abundant energy and stamina and a lot of wrinkles and be happy.
