ON THE BACK BURNER

Gardening is not for anyone who has an exciting life. I spent 7 hours ,plus some minutes, watering the garden. We are not in an official draught, but it hasn't rained in days. Many yards are yellow with grass that now looks like straw. Today, I did a hard watering. Every  20 or 25 minutes, timed on a timer, I moved the hose. I can't count the  number of times I got wet trying to put the sprinkler in just the right spot. And I can't count the number of times that I walked back to the water source, adjusted the flow and then walked back to replace the sprinkler. The plants thanked me. And, no birds destroyed my plantings. My DiL, is trying cayenne pepper on her caged garden. She went to the Food Co op,the local health food store and bought a large quantity of cayenne. It's working for her . I actually wore Dixie out ,going back and forth to move the  sprinkler. She came with me every time. For her afternoon walk, she went through the woods, followed the shade and when the shade ran out, she turned around and we went home following the same route. She came inside and sat in front of the fan. She looks like the dogs who hang their heads out of the car window and let the wind blow their hair and ears back. She looks happy.
