ON THE BACK BURNER

I got fava beans in my farm order. I have never eaten fava, nor did I know what to do with them. Actually, I hadn't heard much about them either. I tried eating them raw, sorta like edamame. Tasted Ok,  but I was concerned that raw might be toxic or something. Then my daughter and grandson told and showed me how to 1. take them out of the pod,2. par boil,3. put in ice bath,4. take outer peel off, 5. do something with them. That's a lot of work for not much flavor. The pod has a protective spongey surface for the beans to rest in. Nature really wants to protect these  beans. They tasted Ok , but not worth all of this effort. I'm glad that I tried them. I just hope that there aren't any more in my veggie delivery.
