ON THE BACK BURNER

Our family was never big on snacks. except for the trick or treats at Halloween, we didn't seem to have much to do with candy or snacking. I made cookies ,we had birthday cakes , I made apple or blueberry pies, depending on the season. But we did have a dessert at every meal. I just don't consider that a snack. It was part of the meal. I don't care for ice cream and I don't remember our kids being that excited about ice cream. The exception, and there always is an exception, is the special times we all would pile in our VW bus,and off we would go to our neighborhood ice cream shop. It was more of a social  event than a love of ice cream .Also, we always stopped at least once a season, to celebrate a dogs birthday with an ice cream cone at a small local ice cream shop on our way to our Michigan cottage. But today, here in Port Townsend, I made an impulse purchase of potato chips. I don't know what came over me. I had crock potted a piece of chuck roast and bought some Jack Daniels BBQ sauce and made pulled beef out of it. I invited the kids for dinner, made coleslaw, and bought potato buns. Those potato chips just flew into my shopping cart. I can't explain it,  but there wasn't a chip left after dinner. Maybe I've been missing something.
